Furniture and IKEA Assembly for North York Homes

Furniture assembly in North York often comes down to ceiling height. Tall wardrobes are drawn for a modern room, and a 1960s bungalow basement or a finished lower-level suite in Willowdale rarely gives the clearance needed to tip one upright.

So I measure floor to ceiling before the first panel goes together, and build standing rather than flat when the room is short. Everything gets levelled, anchored back to the framing and cleared of packaging. I work Monday to Saturday and can take several rooms in one visit.

A lot of North York is post-war frame housing, the bungalows and side-splits through Bathurst Manor, Newtonbrook and Don Mills, with studs at sixteen inches and finished basements offering about seven feet of headroom. A 236 cm wardrobe cannot be built flat and tilted up down there, so it goes together upright, one section at a time, braced as I go. Ducts and bulkheads run low in those basements as well, so a tall bookcase often lands under a drop and the top shelf has to be planned around it.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Tell me the pieces

Send the product names or a link for each item, plus how many of each. IKEA article numbers are ideal. That tells me the build time and whether a piece needs wall fixing or extra care getting it upright.

2
Boxes in the room

Have the flat packs in the room where the furniture is going, with a clear floor space beside them. Carrying a built wardrobe through a doorway rarely works, so the build happens where the piece will live.

3
Built, checked, anchored

Parts are laid out and counted first, then the carcass goes together and gets checked for square before the back panel is fixed. Doors and drawers are adjusted, feet levelled, and anything tall is strapped to the wall.

4
Packaging taken away

Boxes get flattened, foam and plastic bagged, and the lot leaves with me unless you want to keep it. Spare fittings are bagged and left with the instructions in case you move the piece later.

What Affects the Price in North York

Build time is what you are paying for, and that varies more than people expect. A bedside table is quick. A tall wardrobe run with sliding doors is a serious afternoon. The number of pieces, the size of each one, whether the boxes are already in the right room, and how much wall anchoring is needed all count. Disassembly for a move usually takes less time than the original build. Whatever the list, the price or hourly rate is settled before I open a box.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in North York

Will a full-height IKEA wardrobe fit in my basement bedroom?

Measure floor to ceiling first and send me the number. Tall frames need more than their own height to swing upright, so in a seven-foot basement I build them vertically in place instead. If it still will not clear once the levelling feet are wound up, a shorter frame with separate top boxes gives the same storage. Better to sort that out before you order than after.
