Furniture and IKEA Assembly for Scarborough Homes

Furniture assembly in Scarborough means working around split-level stairs and concrete apartment walls. A finished dresser will not turn the half-landing in an Agincourt backsplit, and an anti-tip anchor in a Kingston Road tower is not going into wood.

So I build in the room the piece is staying in, and I carry masonry bits alongside the usual drywall fixings. Beds, bunk beds, wardrobes and shelving all get squared, levelled and fixed back to the wall, and the flattened cardboard goes out with me.

Two things shape this work in Scarborough. The side-splits and backsplits through Wexford, Agincourt and Bendale have short stair runs with a turn at every landing, so anything wider than a doorway has to be assembled upstairs rather than carried up finished. And the rental towers along Markham Road, Lawrence and Kingston Road are poured concrete and block, which means a hammer drill and sleeve fixings for the anti-tip bracket, plus a booked service elevator to get boxes up from the loading dock.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Tell me the pieces

Send the product names or a link for each item, plus how many of each. IKEA article numbers are ideal. That tells me the build time and whether a piece needs wall fixing or extra care getting it upright.

2
Boxes in the room

Have the flat packs in the room where the furniture is going, with a clear floor space beside them. Carrying a built wardrobe through a doorway rarely works, so the build happens where the piece will live.

3
Built, checked, anchored

Parts are laid out and counted first, then the carcass goes together and gets checked for square before the back panel is fixed. Doors and drawers are adjusted, feet levelled, and anything tall is strapped to the wall.

4
Packaging taken away

Boxes get flattened, foam and plastic bagged, and the lot leaves with me unless you want to keep it. Spare fittings are bagged and left with the instructions in case you move the piece later.

What Affects the Price in Scarborough

Build time is what you are paying for, and that varies more than people expect. A bedside table is quick. A tall wardrobe run with sliding doors is a serious afternoon. The number of pieces, the size of each one, whether the boxes are already in the right room, and how much wall anchoring is needed all count. Disassembly for a move usually takes less time than the original build. Whatever the list, the price or hourly rate is settled before I open a box.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in Scarborough

The walls in my apartment are solid concrete. Can you still anchor a tall wardrobe?

Yes. Concrete and block just need a different approach: a hammer drill, a masonry bit and a sleeve or screw anchor rated for that wall, rather than the plastic plugs in the box. It takes a few minutes longer and ends up stronger than any drywall fixing. Tell me if your building restricts drilling hours and I will work inside them.
