Faucet and Plumbing Fixture Installation for Toronto Homes

Faucet installation in Toronto usually means working around plumbing older than the last three owners of the house. In the semis and Victorians of Riverdale, Cabbagetown and The Junction, the supply stops under the sink are often original and will not turn, and the wall behind the escutcheon is plaster, not drywall. I plan for that before I start.

I replace kitchen and bathroom faucets, shower heads, toilets, drains, supply lines and shut-off valves. I quote first, agree the price with you, then do the work. Downtown condos and basement suites are both fine.

Toronto's pre-1950 housing is the real variable. In Riverdale, Cabbagetown and The Junction I often find no fixture shut-offs at all, so the water goes off at the main stop and the job has to move quickly. Old compression stops rarely reseat once turned, so I plan to replace them. Walls behind escutcheons are plaster and lath, which chips. Downtown, a tower riser shut-off has to be arranged through the concierge, and street parking on narrow one-ways decides how much I can carry in at once.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Send a photo

A picture of the sink, the cabinet underneath and the existing shut-off valves tells me most of what I need. From that I can usually price the work before I arrive and bring the right parts and connectors with me.

2
Isolate and remove

Water is shut at the stops, the lines are drained into a tray, and the old fixture comes out. Seized nuts get cut off rather than forced, and the sink deck is scraped back to clean, dry material.

3
Fit and seal

The new fixture sits on its own gasket, the mounting hardware is tightened evenly so the base does not sit skewed, fresh supply lines are fitted, and the drain assembly is sealed with the right material for your sink.

4
Test and dry

Hot and cold run at full flow, the basin is filled and drained to load the trap, then every joint is dried and rechecked. The cabinet floor goes back dry so a future drip is easy to spot early.

What Affects the Price in Toronto

Swapping a fixture on healthy shut-off valves in an open cabinet is quick work. Cost climbs when the stops are seized and have to be replaced, when corroded mounting nuts have to be cut off, when the cabinet is deep and cramped, or when a stone counter and an undermount sink make access awkward. Several fixtures done in the same visit cost less each than booking them separately. Fixtures can come from you or from me with receipts, and the price is settled before any tools come out.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in Toronto

There are no shut-off valves under my sink. Can you still change the faucet?

Yes. A lot of older Toronto houses were built without fixture stops, so I shut the water at the main valve, drain the line and work from there. While the water is off I usually fit new quarter-turn stops under the sink, which makes every future repair simpler for you. If the main valve itself is seized, that is a licensed plumber's job and I will say so.
